Mybank Limited
As the banking industry gathers momentum supported by high
economic growth, the skills sets in the banking industry are being
stretched. The new benchmark for competitive edge has been raised
as never before. It is becoming imperative for banks to offer new
products and enhance customer service levels albeit with low
margins. The focus is on customer service to sustain customer
loyalty.
Mybank Limited (formerly Bolan Bank Limited), with a new
management team in place marched forward with a well articulated
strategy to establish itself as the bank that offers the Best Customer
Service. To achieve this objective the bank decided to focus on the
core competency of banking and customer service. Concurrently, the
bank decided to outsource functions where others could do a better
job for the bank while remaining aligned with the bank’s overall
strategy and objectives.
Through a process of competitive evaluation of proposals from local
and international IT Integrator companies, Mybank Limited selected
Si3 as the preferred supplier to undertake the responsibility for
outsourcing its entire IT infrastructure across the 50 branch network
spread over 22 cities in Pakistan. This being a pioneering initiative by
a bank in the country, Mybank has created a landmark in the banking
industry in Pakistan.
Si3 responsibilities as an IT Integrator and Outsourcing Service
Provider (OSP) encompassed consultancy services to assist the bank
in selection and procurement of all components of the IT
infrastructure. These included the tedious and transparent process of
first selecting the Core Banking System which eventually drives the
selection and induction of entire infrastructure required to be built for the bank. Concurrently, Si3 is entrusted to deliver all IT policies and
guidelines with best practices for Mybank.
Having accomplished the task of selection and procurement, the Si3
team moved forward towards the deployment of the selected Core
Banking System from Misys called Equation along with Trade
Innovation for Trade Finance, and Equation Trader for the bank’s
Treasury function. With a coherently enunciated Project Management
Plan supported by a team of professionals with Fortune 500
experience and banking domain expertise, the Si3 team will
accomplish the Systems Integration (SI) services in the stipulated
time to enable Mybank achieve its stated objective on time within
budget.
A key element towards successful implementation of such a complex
initiative is the skills base that can maximize the utilization of the
technology resource. Therefore an emphatic and all encompassing
rigorous investment is being undertaken for training of the bank’s
staff. This in itself is a joint effort by Mybank and Si3 to extract the
Return on Value of Investment.
No infrastructure for a bank will be complete without a comprehensive
and secure network infrastructure. With many years of skilled
professional experience, the Si3 team will deploy a scalable and
multi-purpose network for Mybank capable of carrying data, voice and
video on demand. The design and architecture of the network has
been comprehended to meet international standards of security for
the financial services industry.
A substantial reinforcement from Si3 for Mybank was the readily
available choice of two Si3 Data Centers to be utilized for
accomplishing the planned Technology and Life Cycle Management
services. A consolidated server farm is housed at the Si3 Data Centre
at Karachi while the Si3 Data Centre at Islamabad has space
reserved to be utilized by the bank for its DR site. The Si3 Data Centre at Karachi will be the base for rendering Managed Services
for the bank covering network management, security services,
desktop management and enterprise systems management.
Other applications being deployed for Mybank are a countrywide
secure Email system and a workflow based Electronic Document
Management System (EDMS).
Going forward, Mybank plans to roll out electronic delivery channels
to enable its valued customers to access and avail banking services
at anytime from anywhere. As the branch network grows for Mybank,
and electronic delivery channels are inducted, the IT infrastructure
will scale to meet the growing demand for customer services
supported and powered by Si3.
The multi-million dollar deal is being aggressively rolled out under the
auspices of a joint steering committee and a Project Management
Office (PMO) specially established for the project comprising of
members drawn from the Si3’s Project Management Centre of
Excellence (PMCoE).
With a common goal to excel in service to customers and create an
outstanding customer service experience, Mybank and Si3 work
coherently and decisively to achieve the ultimate goal mutually
established by the two entities.
